I am currently a PhD student in the University of Auckland's Molecular Neurotherapeutics Lab under the supervision of Associate Professor Deborah Young and Dr Angela Wu. Broadly, my research interests lie in the realm of novel therapeutics, and I have previously structured my learning around the topics of genetics, pharmacology, and neuroscience. This led me to complete my honours project in Associate Professor Deborah Young's lab, working on a novel regulatory system for gene therapies, and now my PhD investigating the utility of anti-NMDA receptor antibodies as a therapeutic agent in the context of neurodegenerative disease. Within neuroscience, my key interest is the cognitive deficits experienced in neurodegenerative disease and general aging, which is part of why I switched to my current project. Following my PhD, I plan to continue working in the field of neurotherapeutics and develop my niche as a scientist. Outside of my research, I really enjoy science communication which has led to me being co chair of the HealtheX research conference for 2022 and 2023, which I have found to be a very rewarding experience. I have also enjoyed speaking with the general public about my research at charity events and getting involved with programmes such as the New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge to get high school students excited about brain research.
