Liviu is a brain cell biologist specialising in microglia, the major immune cells of the brain. His PhD at the University of Bonn, Germany, explored microglia’s role in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Moving to Australia, he coordinated studies on the effect of Tau on protein synthesis and continued to study the role of microglia in various contexts. His work has been published in leading journals, such as Cell (2013), JNeurosci (2014), EMBO J (2019), Acta Neuropathol (2020), or Mol Psych (2024). He has received several awards and grants, such as a Dementia Australia Research Fund MCR Fellowship and an NHMRC Ideas Grant as CIA.
