- This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.
Genevra Hart is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology, University of New South Wales. Her research interests are in the cortico-striatal and nigro-striatal mechanisms underlying goal-directed actions and habits. Approaches include optogenetic and chemogenetic circuitry manipulations and fiber photometry recordings in behaving rodents. Work led by Dr Hart has identified the precise cortical projections to the striatum mediating goal-directed learning (Hart et al., 2018, Journal of Neuroscience; Hart et al., 2018, Current Biology). These findings have been influential in informing contemporary descriptions of this circuitry (Luscher et al., 2020. Nature Reviews Neuroscience; Cox & Witten, 2019. Nature Reviews Neuroscience); in understanding habits and addictions (Lipton et al., 2019. Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience; McNally et al., 2023. Molecular Biology); and have contributed to computational models of goal-directed actions (Barnett et al. 2023. PLOS ONE). More recently, work by Dr Hart has identified a novel signaling mechanism of dopamine release in the dorsal striatum that indicates the strength of the action-outcome association during goal-directed actions (Hart et al., 2024, Cell Reports).
